N
Neo
Multi-bit Delta Sigma D/A Converter
Achieves a combined total harmonic distortion and noise of less than
0.0008%, and a dynamic range of above 117db with 24-bit audio sources.
Nicam
NICAM is the digital stereo sound system used in the United Kingdom for
normal terrestrial analogue broadcasts developed by the BBC. NICAM is a
data compression system for encoding and decoding sound at speed (So as
to avoid lip-sync) It works at a 32khz Sampling frequency and so has a
reduced audible frequency range (15Khz) compared to other digital
formats such as CD or MPEG audio although it is less compressed at it
is transmitted at a bitrate of 704Kbps.
No Signal Power Off
Turns the TV to standby after a station stops broadcasting.
Nominal Impedance
(Ohms)
Speakers and amplifiers normally have rated impedance. (Most speakers
are around 6-8 Ohms) The lower impedance the more current is used from
the amplifier making it more troublesome for an amplifier that is not
designed to cope with a lower impedance to drive. Higher impedance is
easier for the amplifier to drive and so is less of a worry. Some
amplifiers have an impedance selector switch to match the speakers
better.
NTSC
American and Japanese Television picture format. Any TV with this
capability can receive NTSC signals from VCR or DVD. Video Recorders
with this function allow playback of NTSC video tapes.
NTSC Playback on PAL
TV
Technology built into a Toshiba video recorder that enables NTSC tapes
to be viewed on most PAL TVs.
NTSC Video Playback
Technology built into a TV which enables NTSC tapes to be viewed when
played back on an NTSC video recorder.
Number Speed Dial
Speed dial system allows fast dialling at the touch of a button.
