Caller ID Compatible
Lets you see who is calling you. Gives you the option to assign melodies to that caller.

CCD
A small light-sensitive chip, made up of millions of sensors, which converts an image into digital form rather than focusing the image on to film .The sensors are known as pixels and the more pixels on the sensor, the better the final image.

Compact audio disc

CD text
On certain CDs there are graphics, these can scroll across the display telling details of the artist.

CD-R/RW
Recordable CD offers Digital quality in a format that's probably already in your home CD. When recording onto Recordable CDs there is no loss of sound as it exactly reproduces the sound and as with normal CDs there is no deterioration in sound quality over time. Recordable Compact Disc also allows up to 650Mb of data to be stored very cheaply on a Compact Disc. Data is written to the CDR using a special CD Writer, but once written, is permanently burned into the CD. If you need to be able to record, erase and re-record data, please see CDRW.

CDR/RW Playback
A CD or DVD Player that can play back audio compact discs recorded on a CDR or CDRW recorder.

Child lock
Prevents use of equipment without correct PIN input.

Co-axial Audio Terminal
Enables digital audio connection between a DVD player and decoder or digital play-back equipment such as Toshiba's Dolby Digital TVs.

Co-axial Digital Connection/s
A widely used connection for passing digital audio from one component to another. The digital information is passed down a coaxial electrical cable normally at 75Ohms Coaxial digital can carry Dolby Digital, PCM and DTS Audio formats amongst others. On most home equipment a RCA phono plug/socket connection is used as pictured above.

Colour Detail Enhancer
Corrects any colour detail lost in the transmission path.

Common Interface
Allows connection of additional equipment for upgrades and servicing.

Compact Flash
One of the several card storage systems that uses a plug-in cartridge in order to save pictures from the camera's memory to a portable storage device.

Component Video Connection/s
A high quality video connection found on video sources like DVD and Blu-Ray DVD.

Component Video Input
Typically found on professional broadcasting equipment, now available on TVs and DVD players. This type of connection has the same quality as RGB but additionally allows the brightness and contrast of the picture to be adjusted to suit room conditions.

Composite Video
Standard video signal used to send pictures down a cable e.g. From a TV to a VCR or camcorder to a TV.

Compressed Resolution
Most projectors automatically accept images that are of greater resolution than the native (true) resolution of the projector. Images are scaled to fit the native resolution of the projector, which may result in some loss of image quality.

Conditional Access Interface
Allows TV to be upgraded to receive Pay TV terrestrial channels (smart card required).

Copy Protection System
Protects software or movies subject to copyright from illegal duplication.

Corded Surround Speakers
Offers surround sound effects to audio. Connected to the amplifier of the audio or video equipment.

CredaClean Liners
Oven liners effectively clean themselves during the cooking process, virtually eliminating oven cleaning.

CRT
Acronym for a Cathode Ray Tube, the heart of a TV, consisting of a phosphor panel and electron gun.

CRYSTAL-CLEAR DAB SOUND
The Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) transmission standard provides high-quality, interference-free digital audio without the hiss, crackle and fade that occurs with traditional analogue AM/FM broadcasts. DAB receivers offer a more robust reception technology, providing crystal clear reception in the vast majority of cases.
