100Hz
Picture Scan
Traditional televisions scan the picture at 50Hz which can cause eye
strain when watching for long periods of time. 100Hz televisions reduce
eye strain by giving
a clearer picture and fewer flickers. See also
100Hz DFS Active Mode and 100Hz Dynamic Frame Scan.
100Hz
DFS Active Mode
100Hz DFS (Dynamic Frame Scan) Active Mode is an enhanced picture scan
system which minimises large area flicker and reduces line jitter
during fast action scenes.
100Hz
Dynamic Frame Scan
An enhanced picture scan system which minimises large area flicker and
additionally reduces line jitter. This makes the whole picture more
stable with smoother motion and generally greater clarity.
10-bit
Video Signal D/A Converter
Conversion of 8-bit Y (luminance) and C (chrominance) colour signals to
analogue can cause distortion of the picture colour. 10-bit improves
integrity of the video image and helps reproduce truer DVD playback.
16:9
Format
A picture format close to what you would see at the cinema. The
widescreen 16:9 size is larger than the traditional 4:3 television size
and is more suitable when displaying movies.
24
bit/96Khz audio sampling
A high quality digital audio bit/rate used by DVD players.
3D
DNR Picture Enhancement
3D-DNR Picture Enhancement is a feature which reduces the incidence of
random occurring noise in the picture without sacrificing resolution or
critical image detail. Picture quality is often cleaner and noise
reduced for older movies where the source master has picture noise.
3D
PHONIC
An alternative to Pro-Logic surround sound, where the surround sound is
simulated without rear speakers. Not as effective as Pro-logic surround
sound with external rear speakers but is ideal for those who wish to
dispense with extra speakers and wires.
3D
Specialise
An enhanced three dimensional audio image is created A variable phase
delay creates an enhanced three dimensional audio image which adds
depth and richness to a stereo soundtrack.
4
Head
Refers to the number of playback heads on a VCR. A 4 head system
provides increased picture quality to that of standard 2 head models,
particularly during long play, slow motion, pause and frame advance
modes.
4:3
Format
Traditional television picture format found predominately on smaller
compact televisions. Larger Televisions are now adopting the Widescreen
picture format (16:9).
50
Hz Picture Scan
50 Hz Picture Scanning. Scans the information at 50 cycles per second.
6.1
Channel Input
Applies to amplifiers, receivers, HiFi and Surround Sound processors.
Allows the connection of a Dolby Digital/DTS source such as a suitably
equipped DVD player which handles the processing of the Dolby Digital /
DTS signal itself.
90-20,000Hz
Frequency range
Capacity of a devices speakers.
96
kHz/24-bit D/A Converter
Home cinema gains breathtaking impact beyond the limits of analogue
sound, as DVD recording employs linear PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) at
three quantisation bit rates (16-/20-/24-bit) and two sampling rates
(48/96 kHz). Pioneer DVD players support the highest recording format
at 96 khz/24-bit, allowing Pioneer wide- range technology to reach
unprecedented heights of sound quality. Two or more separate 96
khz/24-bit D/A converters are incorporated in some models, one for each
channel, which reduce channel crosstalk and reject interference. Now
you can fully enjoy breathtaking sound quality of digitally recorded
DVD-Video, Video CD and CD software.
